Green Energy NGOs
Non-Governmental Organizations are often the ideal place to start your sustainable energy career. Ask questions, network with experienced professionals, and become a supporter or member.

The Canadian Solar Industries Association was formed in 1978 to serve the interests of Canada’s solar thermal industry, and was known as the CSIA.
The Canadian Photovoltaic Industries Association (CPIA) was formed in 1989 to represent the interests of the new PV industry.
In 1992 the two organizations joined to promote the professional and practical use of solar technologies in Canada, and the Canadian Solar Industries Association (CanSIA) has existed in this form since then.
Individuals, companies and governments who share an interest in solar technology form the membership of CanSIA, a registered not-for-profit organization. It has two boards, one for PV solar and one for solar thermal, and the executive is elected each year from the members sitting on these boards.
CanSIA has a number of specific goals, of which these are the top 3:
1) To develop and implement programs and activities directed at enhancing and accelerating the widespread use of solar energy in Canada.
2) To develop and improve the solar energy industry and the individual members of the industry by facilitating the delivery of training and continuing education.
3) To ensure that governments in Canada have a good understanding of the contribution a viable solar equipment industrial base can make to Canada’s industrial and social development.
CanSIA has a strong focus on skills training and education in solar energy. An example is the Domestic Solar Hot Water (DSHW) workshops taking place across the country. It is also involved with developing and delivering curriculum in a number of college programs aimed at sustainable energy systems.
A national conference is also held once a year, which is becoming larger and more successful with each event.
If you are considering a career in solar energy, whether it be in photovoltaic or thermal power systems, becoming a CanSIA member is a good first step.
