BC opportunities in Solar Hot Water
August 05, 2008
The stars have aligned to dramatically increase the number of solar hot water systems operating in BC over the next several years.
Every success begins with a committed champion. Nitya Harris, a dedicated BCSEA activist, started the SolarBC project in 2005 as a pilot program. Based on its initial results and positive new developments, the project won federal funding through Ottawa’s ecoENERGY program. And on July 18, the provincial government announced $5 million in support to enable administration, training, marketing, and consumer rebates. A home-owner can obtain rebates totallying $1,625, through a combination of provincial and federal grants.
SolarBC is also working in partnership with Northern Lights College and the Canadian Solar Industries Association to improve access to training for qualified tradespeople and businesses seeking to participate in the BC solar hot water opportunity.
