Kootenay energy fair features solar training, Thomas Homer-Dixon

What do a solar hot water installation workshop, author Thomas Homer-Dixon, and breathtaking mountain scenery have in common?  They are all part of the Kootenay Energy Conference, taking place from October 16th to 18th.  The Practice of Sustainability: Problem, Shift-Advantage is being organized by the Kootenay Association for Science & Technology, and is being held at Selkirk College and the Brilliant Cultural Centre.

The DSHW (Domestic Solar Hot Water) workshop is being presented by CanSIA (Canadian Solar Industries Association).  It will provide the skills that are required to install solar domestic hot water systems, and is a requirement for the CanSIA Canadian Solar Domestic Hot Water System Installer Certification program.  Cost is $225, and includes lunch.  It takes place at the Selkirk College Trail Campus. Thomas Homer-Dixon keynote will speak at the conference on Friday Oct 17th at the Brilliant Cultural Centre, starting at 7pm.  Cost is $15.  Thomas Homer-Dixon is known globally as a leading thinker in Whole Systems Theory, and has written a number of books, most recently The Upside of Down: Catastrophe, Creativity, and the Renewal of Civilization, which won the 2006 National Business Book Award.

On Saturday October 18 a full day of workshops, presentations and discussions related to sustainable energy solutions will be held at Selkirk College’s Castlegar Campus.  Please visit the KAST website for more information on these events.
